Day 34 : Hebrews 2

Read Hebrews 2

Helpful Background Information:

  • Hebrews 2 teaches us that Jesus became fully human so He could suffer, die, and save us. Even though He is greater than the angels (1:4-14), He humbled Himself to share in our struggles. He entered into our pain, faced temptation, and conquered sin so we could be part of God’s family.  Amazingly, Jesus is not ashamed to call us His brothers and sisters (Heb. 2:11).

  • This connects directly to Mark 3:20-35, where Jesus redefines family as those who do the will of God. His earthly family misunderstood Him, and the religious leaders accused Him of working with Satan. But instead of being discouraged, Jesus pointed to a deeper reality—true family isn’t about blood, but about faith in and obedience to God.

  • Hebrews 2 helps us see why Jesus can make this claim. By becoming like us, suffering for us, and ultimately dying to break the power of sin, Jesus opened the way for us to be children of God. Mark 3 shows Jesus inviting us into His family, and Hebrews 2 explains the sacrifice He made to bring us in.

Reflection Questions:

  • What does it mean to belong to God’s family?

  • In Mark 3:34-35, Jesus says that His true family consists of those who do the will of God. In Hebrews 2:11, we learn that Jesus is not ashamed to call us His brothers and sisters. How can you live in a way that reflects your place in God’s family this week? If Jesus is not ashamed to call sinful humans His family, how does that affect the way you interact with people who don’t yet know Jesus?

  • In Mark 3:22-30, the religious leaders saw Jesus’ power but wrongly attributed it to Satan. Hebrews 2:3-4 warns against neglecting the message God has confirmed through miracles and the Holy Spirit. How have you seen God at work in your life, and how can you be more intentional about recognizing and responding to His working in your life?

  • Hebrews 2:1 warns us to pay careful attention to what we have heard so that we do not drift away. What distractions threaten to pull you away from Jesus, and how can you guard against drifting in your faith?
