Day 19 : 1 Timothy 1:12-20

Read 1 Timothy 1:12-20

Helpful Background Information:

  • In 1 Timothy 1:12-20, Paul shares his personal story of transformation to encourage his young friend Timothy. Paul was once a blasphemer, persecutor, and violent man. He passionately opposed Christians, thinking he was doing God’s will. However,  After meeting Jesus on the road to Damascus (Acts 9), Paul repented, received mercy, and was called into ministry. He describes himself as the “chief” of sinners to emphasize the abundant grace of Christ, who came to save sinners. Paul explains that his life serves as an example of God’s patience, showing that anyone can be redeemed.

Reflection Questions:

  • Paul’s transformation is similar to Levi’s call in Mark 2. Both could have been seen as irredeemable, but Jesus called them both. How does this challenge our view of others who seem far from God?

  • In verse 15, Paul declares “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” Why do you think Paul, an apostle, refers to himself this way?

  • How is Paul’s story an example of the transformative power of God’s grace?

  • In verse 16, Paul says his life is an example of God’s patience. How can your own story of God’s grace in your life encourage others to trust in Jesus?
