Day 20 : Romans 3

Read Romans 3

Helpful Background Information:

  • In Romans 3, Paul declares that all people, both Jews and Gentiles, are under the power of sin and incapable of achieving righteousness on their own. He emphasizes that “there is none righteous, no, not one” (v. 10), quoting from the Old Testament to show the universal need for God’s grace. Despite having the law, even the Jews are not exempt from guilt, as the law exposes sin rather than justifies.

  • Paul reveals that God's righteousness is now available apart from the law and is given to all who believe in Jesus Christ (v. 22). Jesus’s atoning sacrifice, described as a “propitiation by His blood” (v. 25), satisfies God’s justice and offers justification freely to anyone who responds in faith. In short, this passage highlights the spiritual sickness of all people and the offer of healing through faith in Jesus.

Reflection Questions:

  • Why is it important to recognize that everyone, including ourselves, is in need of God’s grace? How does this shape the way we see others?

  • Romans 3:20 says the law shows us our sin, and Jesus said He came to heal the spiritually sick. Why is recognizing our sin essential for experiencing the healing Jesus provides?

  • Romans 3:27 asks, “Where is boasting then?” How does knowing that our spiritual health comes from Jesus affect the way we treat those who don’t yet know Him?
