Day 55 : Psalm 107:10-16

Read Psalm 107:10-16

Helpful Background Information:

  • Paul describes how Jesus’ victory on the cross defeated sin, canceled our spiritual debt, and disarmed the powers of darkness. Before salvation, we were spiritually dead in our sins, completely incapable of saving ourselves. But through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He made us alive, forgave our sins, and removed the record of our guilt, nailing it to the cross. More than that, Jesus’ triumph over sin also meant the defeat of Satan and his demonic forces. He disarmed the principalities and powers, making a public spectacle of them. Jesus turned what looked like His greatest defeat (the cross) into His greatest victory. In Colossians, Paul explains that Jesus’ work on the cross was the ultimate victory over demonic powers, stripping them of their ability to hold us captive. Just as the freed man in Mark 5 became a living testimony of Christ’s power, believers today stand as proof that Jesus has conquered sin, death, and the forces of darkness once and for all.

Reflection Questions:

  • In what ways do people today feel enslaved by their past sins? How does Colossians 2:14 help us?

  • How does knowing that Jesus has already won the victory over Satan change the way you view spiritual struggles in your own life?

  • The man who was freed in Mark 5 became a living testimony to Jesus' power. If, as Colossians suggests, your life has also been transformed by Jesus, how can you demonstrate to the world what Christ has done in your life?
