Day 7 : Exodus 3:1-12
Read Exodus 3:1-12
Helpful Background Information:
Exodus 3:1-12 tells the story of God calling Moses from a burning bush. This happens after Moses had fled Egypt, where he grew up as a prince, and spent 40 years living as a shepherd in Midian. Earlier, Moses had tried to defend his people by killing an Egyptian, but this led to him running away into exile (Exodus 2:11-15). Now, at 80 years old and far from the life of power he once had, God appears to Moses in this amazing way. He calls Moses to go back to Egypt and lead the Israelites out of slavery.
Like the disciples, Moses was called in the middle of his daily routine (tending sheep) and invited to take part in God’s greater mission. Moses initially felt unqualified, much like the disciples, who were ordinary fishermen, yet God equipped them for the work He set before them.
Reflection Questions:
How does Exodus 3:1-12 help us understand Mark:1:16-28?
Moses was living as a shepherd when God called him. How does this compare to the disciples being called while fishing in Mark 1:16-20? What does this say about God meeting us in our everyday lives?
God promised Moses, “I will be with you.” How does this promise give us courage to step out in faith? How does it apply to your own life today?
